Creating time for fun

"Even though you're growing up, you should never stop having fun."

- Nina Dobrev

Once we exit our teenage years we take on more responsibilities in our personal and professional lives. We learn that being a grown up requires us to stay committed to paying the bills and taking care of our own health and personal needs, while possibly raising families of our own. It can be a lot of work. It isn't always fun and games. Sometimes, even our favorite activities can seem like a chore. For our own wellbeing, it's important for us to remember to set aside time to have fun and enjoy life!

We know what it means to have a work-life balance. It has become a more popular term in the 24/7 world we live in, where working 9-5 Monday-Friday is not necessarily the norm anymore. While it is important to make sure our professional life is not invading too much on our personal life, it's also important to make sure our personal life does not turn into a never-ending "To-do" list of chores, without carving out any fun and leisure time for ourselves. Burnout can happen just as easily in our personal lives as it can professionally.

We owe it to ourselves to make sure we are being proactive about our own self-care. That includes enjoying some of our "me time" and free time. To not have any time set aside to enjoy the fun side of life would be a disservice to ourselves. Otherwise, we fall into this trap of all work and no play. That's no fun. It can also negatively affect our mental health if we find ourselves constantly on the go without being able to have fun with our family, friends and colleagues. Even if we have to schedule time to make sure we squeeze it in, it can help us find a better work-life-play balance.

What do you do for fun? What fun stuff do you have planned this holiday season? If you could squeeze in one more fun thing for the next week, what would it be? Schedule a little more joy and fun on your calendar, even if all you can find is an extra half hour. It's a great way to unwind and remember to enjoy all the good stuff life offers. Love. Laughter. Lollipops. When we allow ourselves to make more room for fun in our lives, we can experience more of the brighter side of life. How do you say no to that?
