Letting our Light shine
"When you let your light shine, you unconsciously give others permission to do the same."
When you look back at your life, what accomplishments are you most proud of? What are some of those moments where you were flying high and beaming with delight? Usually, our proudest moments are the ones we put loads of time and effort into making happen. We overcome obstacles and display resilience while achieving our goals and doing the best we can with whatever life deals us. We are also able to hopefully do it all with some humility and grace, knowing no matter what happens, we have the ability to rise above it all.
Over the years I have learned it is not necessarily what I have accomplished I am most proud of, but how I have managed to carry on despite falling short on certain goals I set for myself or experiencing pitfalls and setbacks along the way. My life has been a continuous journey of ups and downs that not only test my resolve, but also test my faith and humility. I realized it's not so much the outcome, but how I react to it. The easier I accept what cannot be changed, the easier it is to move on. The more diligently I work on correcting what can be changed, the more I persevere and hopefully succeed in what I set out to do.
I have been inspired by so many people who have displayed resolve in the face of adversity. I look at Simone Biles, the US gymnast who was forced to pull out of some of her events in the Olympics due to mental health issues that were affecting her ability to perform. Apparently, the twisties are no joke. Despite having to deal with negativity from people who wanted her to just suck it up, I feel she handled the situation with humility and grace. When she was finally cleared to compete in the last event for gymnastics, the balance beam, she ended up securing a bronze medal, stating, "My mental and physical health is above all medals that I could ever win." She was "beaming" with delight. 😁
Overcoming adversity is one thing. Doing it with an upbeat attitude and a smile on our face is on a whole nother level. We can choose to rise above it all even when we don't reach our ultimate goal. Our attitude speaks volumes. When we display humility and grace during our setbacks, we show others how it's not always about what happens, but how we respond. We also set an example for others by not letting circumstances dictate our emotions. We learn to let go and move on. It's not always easy, but we find it can make life much more manageable and worth living when we do it with a smile on our face.
