Not feeling overwhelmed

"Know that you are your greatest enemy, but also your greatest friend."

Managing our lives can sometimes seem overwhelming when we have competing priorities to attend to and our "To-Do" list seems to get longer instead of shorter. 😬 We have all been there. It could be that we may be taking on too much, which should prompt us to reassess our priorities and maybe cut some unnecessary commitments out of our life. Sometimes though, everything on our "To-Do" list must get done, and it is up to us to make it happen. In order to not get overwhelmed and let or commitments pile up, it's important to find balance between doing too much or not doing enough.

I admit I have a long "To-Do" list with my personal and professional commitments. Some days I will start feeling overwhelmed and can't figure out where to start or what deserves my time and attention. I stopped feeling the need to bury my head in the sand and ignore everything, knowing I still have to get stuff done. I actually have a friendly reminder hanging in my home office that states, "I get shit done." 💪🏼 Kicking the can down the road only delays what I need to get done and could add more work by me stalling. I just gotta pick the can up!

I also stopped getting down on myself so much. This was something I did too often. I would either be too hard on myself or play the victim card, even though I was the only perpetrator in this mental crime of mine. Nobody else was being tough on me. I would blame myself for being too ambitious or taking on too many commitments, then I would retreat to my 'woe is me' mentality and binge on mindless entertainment. It got me nowhere, fast. I realized I needed to find balance between being overambitious, being too critical of myself, and waving the white flag of surrender.

With more self-awareness and mindfulness I have learned to prioritize and not over-dramatize any situation where I am feeling overwhelmed. Now, I truly believe God/Source/Our Higher Self does not give us any more than we can handle. I treat it like a game, and I'm always up for a good challenge! By being too hard on ourselves or giving up on ourselves, we give life the opportunity to conquer us. With the right mindset, we can become the hero of our own life story by taking on a "Can do" attitude so we can conquer life instead, no matter how long our "To-Do" list is.
