"Love the life you live. Live the life you love."
- Bob Marley
I love life! Most days I am amazed and in awe of the wondrous and miraculous adventure we were each born into. Nearly all of us have no clue why we were born on Earth, what the goal of life is or the correct way for us to navigate this experience. Most of us simply do what we are told or live by the expectations set by our families and communities. But how many of us actually make an effort to truly enjoy our life by experiencing it from a place of Love, as opposed to acting out of fear, hate, disregard or discontent?
My former default mode was one of discontent and apathy. I was not happy with my life, so I was ok with other people being unhappy. I was living an existence where I allowed my own dissatisfaction with my life spill over into the lives of the people I interacted with. I was not necessarily 'Misery looking for company,' but I was not coming from a place of Love most the time. Instead of lifting people up with a positive attitude, I tore people and their ideas down with pessimism and a sense of surrendering to the pitfalls of life. It was not pretty. I'm not proud of who I was, but I am glad to have retired that version of me in my late 20's.
What a difference just our outlook on life can make! Now, at 43, my default mode is Love. That's the bar for me. I come from a place of Love. It has suited me wonderfully for the past 15+ years. I have learned to not allow others to drag me down to their level of negativity. I've been there. I have lived that life of dissatisfaction, blaming my woes on everything and everyone but myself. It got me nowhere but deeper in despair. Now I prefer to inspire and motivate people to become their best self. It has worked wonders for me!
By learning the hard way, I found life is what we make it. We get to decide how we are going to play the hand we are dealt. We get to live life from a glass is half-empty or half-full (or overflowing, like me! ) perspective. We get to choose whether we treat ourselves and others with loving kindness or disrespect. It's up to us. It's our life. I'm done with my discontent for life. It did not serve me or others very well. I have experienced the benefits of loving life, so I will continue loving the life I live, setbacks and all. How much are you loving life right now? If you feel you are not loving it enough, what changes can you make to love life even more?
