Maintaining a fresh start

"Long-term consistency beats short-term intensity."

Happy New Year! Even though every day is a great day for a fresh start, the new year is all about fresh starts. Resolutions are made. Intentions and goals are set. Many people start the new year with a renewed vigor for life. However, by the end of January, that renewed vigor for many people turns into everything from exhaustion to just plain laziness. Why is that? Why do so many of us set intentions and goals for ourselves, only to give up before really seeing any of the desired results?

I'm guilty of the January letdown. Many times I gave up in the first week of the year! My intentions were high but my drive and follow-through were lacking. I wanted the visions I imagined, but I was not willing to put forth the effort. I gave up before seeing the progress. The problem with giving up on our goals so easily is that it can take a toll on our mental, physical and emotional health when we continuously let ourselves down.

I found the best way to be successful with my intentions is by creating specific, measurable goals and working consistently toward them despite setbacks or roadblocks. While it may be easy to make a fresh start, improving our quality of life requires establishing productive habits and routines to gain momentum until we see and feel the progress. Consistency is key! Although, If we do not track our progress, it can be easy to get discouraged. I also found that having an accountability partner to check in with is huge! I stay more committed to my goals this way.

I also created a morning routine recently so I can stick to my goals. It helps me maintain this daily blog so I can help others level up in life. Social reformer Richard Whately said, "Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it." Morning routines may not work for everyone, but we must consistently schedule time to make progress toward our goals. It's the difference between success or giving into another January letdown. The choice is ours.

More Wellness!
