Defining personal success

"Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it."

- Maya Angelou

In what ways do you feel successful as a person? We all define personal success differently. To some people, it's financial freedom. For others, it is family and friends. Some people define personal success as those incremental achievements that help them grow as a person. Or maybe the ultimate goal is happiness. Success can be viewed from many different aspects. Whatever it is we choose as our barometer for success, it's our duty to go out and make it happen. We may even discover our definition of success changes over time.

When defining personal success, there are many factors to consider. What is that success being measured by? It depends on what you define as personal success. It's not easy to quantify, even when considering wealth. If a corporate executive is unhappy with their career and marriage, are they leading a successful life? It also might not be the number of relationships we have, but the quality of those relationships. Even for people who lead a life of serving others, it might not necessarily be about the amount of people served, but how well we feel those people were treated by us.

Personal success should be unique to everyone. It should be what drives us to make the most out of this lifetime. I consider my final days and wonder what would make me look back and think, "I have lived a successful life." Simply put, it's about leveling up in my own life. I am always looking for ways to improve my mental, physical, Spiritual and emotional health. I also think it's important to pursue a profession that brings personal satisfaction. I enjoy helping others improve their own wellbeing. I also value my relationships and challenge myself to develop them even further. On a more ethereal level, I also believe it's about my Soul growth.

How do you define your own personal success? How do you stack up wins in your life? What brings you personal satisfaction? Whatever it is, I encourage you to do more of that. Make the most out of this lifetime. That way, in your final days, when you look back at how you lived, you can be proud of the time and effort you put in to living a life you can be proud of. If you do not feel you are headed in that direction, it's never too late to change course. Go create a life you can be proud of and bask in the personal successes it brings.
